The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 2.4 percent from March 2017 to March 2018. That was the largest 12-month increase since the period ending March 2017 and higher than the 1.6-percent average annual rate over the past 10 years. Consumer prices for food rose 1.3 percent from March 2017 to March 2018. Prices for food at home rose 0.4 percent, while prices for food away from home rose 2.5 percent. Energy prices were 7.0 percent higher in March 2018 than a year earlier.
