This Monday (29) in the program Viva Roda, interviewed Bernard Appy, economist and one of the authors of the tax reform proposal that is being examined by Congress. Among the measures suggested in the proposal, is the reduction of taxes on the basket that will generate benefits for Brazilians with lower purchasing power. For Appy, tax simplification has the potential to attract investment and contribute to job creation.
Brazilian Economy: Outlook, Opportunities and Challenges
The economic outlook in Brazil has changed dramatically in the past decade. A period of optimism and growth fueled by a domestic consumption boom and a positive commodities’ cycle ended abruptly in 2014, and was followed by the worst economic recession in the country’s history. Brazil is currently undertaking an important shift towards more liberal policies in order to deal with the fiscal and structural challenges that were brought about by this scenario. The lecture will focus on understanding the major issues in the current economic debate and the business opportunities that might arise from changes in policy.
